Upon arrival in March, it turns out that Quinta do Arneiro is actually a working farm that runs a small food shop and an organic restaurant. We arrived for brunch, and the restaurant was filled with other patrons – all Portuguese.
Restoration began last year (2017), and the scaffolds tell the story of a work in progress. The hope will be to have the buildings habitable within a couple of years. For now, the main production buildings house not only the winemaking but also the tasting room and a restaurant–so there’s plenty to see while the reconstruction continues.

Everyone seemed pretty tired and hungover, but to have had a grand time and our wedding. Dan and I enjoyed a pool-side lunch of fries and a Somerbsy cider. The classic post-wedding carb overload. It was delightful.

5km from Gradil, where there is a great restaurant and a grocery gradil 1 5 store for small purchases. If you want a bigger supermarket, there are all the big ones in Malveira, 8 minutes away, as well as many restaurants. Mafra is just 15 minutes away too. The beautiful Ericeira and its beaches are 20 minutes away if you want to enjoy the coast. If you want to go for a walk to Lisbon or Sintra, they are only 30 minutes away so you can wander around to your heart's content :)...
